[RadCast] Why Animals Fear You (Genesis 9)

The first mention of fear in the bible comes right after the flood, where God causes the animals to fear humans, mostly because we’re going to eat them. Scientists today are baffled as to why animals, even the ones who can eat us, are afraid. It’s part of God’s created re-order following the flood. What God *didn’t* create was fear in us. So… where does that come from? More on that tomorrow.

Fredrick Buechner said “Here is the world. Beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don’t be afraid.”

But how? Especially with snakes falling from the sky?

[RadCast] Favorite Phobia? (Isaiah 41:10)

Listen, we’re all afraid of something, and fear has become the primary motivator of our time. Can we talk about fear this week? I hope you’ll join me on this week’s journey, because there’s waaaay too much to be afraid of. Fear can destroy us and our faith if we’re not careful. What does God say? How shall we live

PS: Share your phobias below — if you’re not too scared!

[RadCast] How Great is God’s Mercy? (1 Peter 1:3-5)

We’ve been talking about how His mercies are new every morning, faithful like a favorite coffee mug. But how *great* is this mercy? We don’t get what we deserve — instead, we get new birth, living hope, spiritual riches, and shielding power.

Is this enough to live the Jesus life today?

Be encouraged, friends. God’s mercy is truly great.

Thanks for liking and sharing.

[RadCast] Our Plans, His Steps (Proverbs 16:9)

In this (still) new year, we make plans and set goals. Proverbs reminds us that our plans are human at best, and evil at worst. We’d better make sure that God is part of the planning and the execution, because unexpected snags will get us along the way & we’ll have to improvise.

[RadCast] Compassion (Psalm 103:6-10)

“A feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken my misfortune…” says one online dictionary. God is compassionate toward us, not treating us as our sins deserve. This is an act of love like no other. Consider the compassion of God and consider making it your aim to implement it in your own life in 2023. Perhaps this will help bring healing to a world in desperate need.

[RadCast] It’s Very Wise to Ask for Wisdom (James 1:5-6)

I’m at a point in my life where I need to know what to do with all this information. Knowledge seems endless, but wisdom — knowing what to do with all this knowledge — is in short supply.
We’re invited to ask and believe He knows what He’s doing. It’s a wise move to ask God for wisdom, friends.
Join me in the ask today.

[RadCast] The Tough Stuff (James 1:2-4)

There’s this recurring idea that Jesus will keep us away from tough stuff in life. It sounds cozy and comforting, but that’s not how scripture describes the experience of a Christ follower.

A significant paradigm shift, one that I myself experienced in my life. More on that later! Until then, share, like, subscribe on YouTube.

[RadCast] Comfort, Comfort, Comfort, Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)

We’ve considered the mug as a reminder of God’s faithfulness this week. Today we see His faithfulness in bringing comfort, which is meant to cascade through us to others who are in distress. It turns out that God’s faithfulness prompts our faithfulness to a hurting world.
Step 1: experience comfort
Step 2: comfort others

[RadCast] Why Drawing Close Can Make it Worse (Psalm 25:16-18)

I felt God pulling me toward speaking to the brokenhearted this morning. I wasn’t sure how it tied in with the new year until it hit me: sometimes we draw closer and feel worse, and therefore discouraged. Why? Because we have a revelation about ourselves as the Spirit opens our eyes. Going to the doctor and getting a diagnosis doesn’t make it worse, though we may not like the news. However, the realization and diagnosis must come before the cure.
How is God healing you? And how does He show is faithfulness in your distress?
Share and encourage one another.

[RadCast] Shouting Out in Distress (Lamentations 3:22-26, 33)

This one’s a bit longer because it includes footage of Dan Orlovsky praying for Damar Hamlin live on ESPN.
Deep down, we *know* that God is faithful. Watch and draw closer.
