[RadCast] Advent: Waiting and Working (Titus 2)

I’m waiting for Christ’s return and I don’t like my job.
I’m supposed to have joy but my life is monotonous.
I’m supposed to have hope but it feels like I’m stuck in this broken mess.
What are we supposed to do besides… stand around and wait? Are we supposed to be joyless and hopeless?

[RadCast] Advent: Praying to a Friend (John 15)

E.M. Bounds writes that “the main object of [Jesus] choosing us as his disciples and of friendship for him was that we might be better fitted to bear the fruit of prayer.”
In other words, the power of prayer shouldn’t be wielded unless we know what we’re dealing with, and we can’t know what we’re dealing with unless we know *who* we’re dealing with — as a friend.

[RadCast] Advent: Rescue

We’re waking up to the fact that we’re spiritual hoarders. Something awakens us to the fact that we’re trapped and need somebody from outside to help us. We need Jesus to come and rescue us. Yet, we don’t want him in our business. Arms length is safe. For this to work, God has to bother us… something isn’t right, and I don’t like it. Discomfort is essential for discipleship. That’s basically Advent Rescue.

[RadCast] Advent: Answered Prayer (Psalm 65)

You might think “oh, answered prayer… I know what that’s about… moving on…” but have you stopped to consider the backstory? The time *before* the resolution?

God finally FINALLY answers a prayer (hallelujah) and we rejoice and go about our lives a bit lighter, and rightly so. But what about that terrible crappy journey that we had to go through to get there? How does that register in our memories?

Advent is a time to acknowledge — boldly, perhaps with overemphasis — that we live in the crappy time. But it’s ok, and here’s why…
