John the Baptist, a somewhat peculiar man who is for us a voice of Advent. models self-sacrifice and obedience to God’s plan. We need to do the same.And/Or
Is there a John the Baptist type person in your life that kind of annoys you and yet… they’re speaking Truth?

I’m waiting for Christ’s return and I don’t like my job.
I’m supposed to have joy but my life is monotonous.
I’m supposed to have hope but it feels like I’m stuck in this broken mess.
What are we supposed to do besides… stand around and wait? Are we supposed to be joyless and hopeless?

Now that I think about it more, I wonder if we avoid His involvement with everything because we end up having to change.

Two weeks until Christmas!

In Isaiah 65:17-25, God speaks a majestic picture of a broken world made right again. Why doesn’t He do it now? Two reasons, see video.

We’re waking up to the fact that we’re spiritual hoarders. Something awakens us to the fact that we’re trapped and need somebody from outside to help us. We need Jesus to come and rescue us. Yet, we don’t want him in our business. Arms length is safe. For this to work, God has to bother us… something isn’t right, and I don’t like it. Discomfort is essential for discipleship. That’s basically Advent Rescue.

The writer of Hebrews knows that we will be discouraged from time to time.
Expect it. Remember how God has been faithful in you and through you. Hold on. Don’t give up.

We’re in a broken world. The writer of Hebrews knows that we may have a tendency to lose hope.
Don’t throw away your confidence: it will be richly rewarded.
