[RadCast] But Deliver Us From Evil (TLP)

Praying like this humbly acknowledges two things:
First, there is evil in this world — from the world around us, from our own hearts, and from evil spiritual forces.
Second, there is a God who is above all this — holy, powerful, capable, and ready to help.
I wonder if we end up in some predicaments simply because we didn’t ask for help sooner. What are your thoughts?

[RadCast] Lead Us Not Into Temptation (TLP)

Yes, we will be tempted by the world, the flesh, or the devil. While God does not tempt us, He does allow us to be tempted. It was a key part of the earthly experience of Christ, and, thus, is ours as well.
Praying like this keeps us humble because it reminds us that we don’t have the strength to face temptation by our own strength.

[RadCast] Forgive Us our Sins (TLP)

The truth is that we keep sinning. But the TRUTH is that God cleanses us as we come to terms (confess) that we’ve sinned. Our typical human experience begins to change, supernaturally, as we make this a regular part of our prayer — no wonder Jesus puts that line in.

[RadCast] Freezer Full o’ Bread

Jesus teaches us to pray “give us this day our daily bread.” This challenges our consumer culture that trains us to buy in bulk and save. Nothing wrong with savvy shopping — but it does become a problem when we trust our own ability to provide rather than God himself.
Plus… why would we ask Jesus to return ASAP and claim we believe it but also ask for a month’s worth of food supply?

[RadCast] Your Kingdom come (TLP)

What does it mean to pray “Your Kingdom come”? It means forsaking the temporary kingdoms of this world in exchange for the eternal kingdom of God. It looks good on paper, but it’s surprisingly difficult — until we remember that the Kingdom provides for our needs in this kingdom, too. Grace is amazing.
