[RadCast] God is Wiser Than Me (Romans 11:33)

Whatever you’re doing today, you need God-sized wisdom. Ask! But, when you ask, realize the kind of wisdom you’re dealing with: he’s the source of all wisdom. He made everything around us.

[RadCast] Zestfully Clean

What does the Psalmist mean by “forgive my hidden faults”? It’s like this:
I needed somebody else to point out the oil smudge on my forearm.
The closer we get to Jesus, the purer we become. But.. prepare to be surprised in the process.

So I Married a Veteran

I knew I was dealing with a person who functions at a whole different level when I first met my Vet at Starbucks, even though I didn’t yet know she served in the Army. It would’ve helped if she wore her fatigues and not a green jumper that day. Yes, the green-ness of her outfit might’ve given me a hint, but I was busy taking in a LOT of information and simply missed that particular detail. I found out in our conversations (which haven’t ceased since) that the Corporal did logistics in her four year stint, ensuring that an entire medical unit could successfully get to a base in Germany without forgetting their hospital equipment or, I assume, their fatigues.

That logistical skill is only sharper today as she manages the Army that is our family, our house functioning like a base where soldiers are coming and going all the time — mostly to school, basketball games, work, and their friend’s houses. Well fed and properly equipped, Corporal Brittany makes sure they have what they need to succeed in their mission.

I thought about joining up back in the day, imagining myself like the Chaplain in the novel Catch-22, a little silver cross pinned to my shirt collar, fighting battles both physical and spiritual against the enemy, who can sometimes be found in the world and always found in our own souls. Corporal Wife says it’s better that I didn’t enlist and I believe her. She got the sharpshooter award for being the best and managed to get her degrees paid for. She sometimes gets a military discount, which I married into without lifting a finger. People say to me “oh, thank you for your service, sir” to which I say “it was actually my wife who served”, which I always enjoy telling people. As it turns out, Brittany’s got enough Army superpower for both of us.

I’m proud of my veteran wife and grateful that she served. Tough as nails, smart, yet bougie and stylish — it’s a beautiful, mysterious combination. People are sometimes surprised she was in the Army, but I wasn’t. It explains why she can back up a truck like a boss. She did the same thing with Humvees and, quite possibly, tanks.

So don’t mess with her.

[RadCast] Best Life Hack (Luke 10:38-42)

We’ve probably heard the story more than a few times. Then why do we continue to be governed by anxiety?
It’s probably because we can listen to a bible story and not do what it says. At least that’s my problem. If we have today, we have opportunity to grow. So — think of it as a life hack.

[RadCast] A Good Time to be Alive (Luke 10:23-24)

Jesus gives perspective to our place in time. He says “guys, kings and prophets before you longed to see what you’re seeing today.”
You don’t know what you’ve got ’till it’s gone.
These are the good days — not because of the conditions but because of Christ.

[RadCast] The Kingdom of God Has Come Near to You (Luke 10)

I challenge you today, friends, to go into the world and be ready to bring the KoG wherever you go. Don’t underestimate what God can do through sent people who are aware of His grace, humble, and willing to follow the lead of the Spirit.
Go and reach a hurting world. Today.

[RadCast] Endless but Noticeably Gone (Luke 8:40-48)

Do you believe Jesus and his power enough to press in through the crowds (noise, distraction, forces) and get to Him? Do you believe that His power in you heals?
When His power flows into you, He notices. It’s endless but He knows — and that’s a good thing.
I want this kind of passion and drive as a follower.
